Lead Service Line Replacement Program

LSLRPThe City of Lafayette is announcing the launch of our Lead Pipe Replacement Program (LSLRP), designed to ensure the safety and quality of our drinking water which was mandated by Indiana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This initiative is crucial for protecting the health of our community and providing peace of mind regarding the water you use every day.

Program Outline:

  1. Service Line Definition: The city owns the portion of the service line from the water main to the water meter near the curb. The property owner is responsible for the rest of the service line, from the meter to the home. This program will assist residents in ensuring that any service lines containing lead pipes will be replaced. This program does not encompass any other lead pipes that might be present within the home.
  2. Identification of Lead Pipes: The Lafayette Water Works team will conduct thorough inspections to identify any lead service lines in your home or neighborhood.  Homes built after 1935 should not be affected by this program.
  3. Mailing Notification:  Residents will be notified if inspections conducted earlier this year have identified their dwelling as impacted. If a service line replacement is needed, detailed information will be provided in the letter you receive.
  4. Replacement Process: Once identified, we will coordinate the replacement of these pipes at no cost to you, ensuring minimal disruption to your daily life.
  5. Water Testing: After the replacement, we will conduct comprehensive water quality tests to confirm that no lead is present in your water supply.

No Cost to Consumers: We understand the financial burden that home repairs can impose. That’s why this program is being funded funded through a combination of grants and loans, with no cost to customers., allowing us to provide these essential services to you at no cost.

No Lead in Water Consumer Report: We are proud to share that our latest water quality report confirms that lead levels are undetectable in our municipal water supply. This is a significant achievement, thanks to ongoing efforts to ensure the highest safety standards.
