Training

The Training Division of the Lafayette Fire Department is located at the Lafayette Fire Department Training Center (LFDTC) 2070 South 500 E on the same property as the large city water tower. It is adjacent to Lafayette Fire Department Station #9 and north of the SIA automotive plant. The division is managed by an Assistant Chief of Training and Captain of Training. Both positions are available Monday-Friday 8a-4pm. The preferred method of contact is by email web-lfdtrain@lafayette.in.gov . The phone system is only monitored as time allows. 


Lafayette Fire Department Training Center (LFDTC)


The Training Center first opened in the spring of 2003. It consists of the following amenities:

  • 800 square foot classroom capable of holding 28 students
  • Break Room
  • Men’s and Women’s restroom/shower facilities
  • Three heated truck bays

Greater Lafayette Fire Recruit Academy

The Lafayette Fire Department Training Center hosts The Greater Lafayette Fire Recruit Academy. The Academy is a collaborative effort by the Lafayette Fire Department, West Lafayette Fire Department, Purdue University Fire Department, Wabash Township Fire Departments, and the Indiana Fire & Public Safety Academy to provide basic firefighter training. The Academy has provided the following certifications prior to Graduation:

  • Technical Rescue Awareness
  • Firefighter I/II
  • Hazmat Awareness/Operations/Technician
  • Driver Operator General/Pumper
  • Emergency Medical Technician. 

Indiana Fire & Public Safety Academy (IDHS District 4) 

The Lafayette Fire Department has partnered with the Fire & Public Safety Academy as a host site for trainings that benefit many departments across the state, including those in District 4 (9 county area).
