Lifespan: 10-20 years in the wild; 35+ years in captivity
The emu is the second largest bird in the world (the ostrich is the largest). Too heavy to fly, the emu's feathers are adapted for warmth, giving them a fluffy appearance. Emu tail feathers are stiff and can be rattled together to scare off potential predators such as dingoes and wild dogs.

- Emu have a pouch in their throat the can be used to make a deep drumming sound to communicate with other emu!
- Emu can run up to 30 mph with an almost 9 foot stride!
- Emu are the only birds that have calf muscles!
