[ARCHIVED] Police arrest man after stand off on S 18th Street

Lafayette Police Respond to Barricaded Subject – Arrest

Today, June 1st, around 9:45 the Lafayette Police Department assisted case workers with the Department of Child Services on an on-going investigation in the 3300-block of South 18th Street.  During the call, a male subject and resident of the home, Timothy Ferguson (63), pointed a firearm at a police officer as authorities conducted their investigation into the well-being of a 7-year-old child, who also lived in the home.

No shots were fired and the officer successfully moved the DCS workers to safety, outside the home.  Police maintained a perimeter until SWAT units and negotiators arrived to assist.  Police were able to talk to Ferguson and he exited the home.  Ferguson was taken into custody without incident.  Ferguson was arrested for Intimidation with a Firearm (Level 5 Felony) and Neglect of a Dependent (Level 5 Felony).

Police continue to investigate the matter.  There were no injuries.  The child was removed from the home and is safe.  Police also arrested Felicia Powell (38) for an outstanding arrest warrant for a driving offense.  Police thank the community of staying clear of the area during the incident.

The case will be turned over to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutors Officer to review for charges.
