[ARCHIVED] Columbian Park Zoo Announces Pollinator Palooza

Columbian Park Zoo is celebrating pollinator conservation in conjunction with National Pollinator Week.

Pollinator Palooza will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, culminating a week of on-grounds interactive activities celebrating bees, butterflies and other pollinators. At Pollinator Palooza, the Zoo will offer a series of family-friendly activities related to pollinator conservation. These will include hands-on learning activities, games, displays and more.

National Pollinator Week is an initiative started by the Pollinator Partnership to bring awareness to declining pollinator populations and to encourage pollinator conservation. It was officially recognized by the United States Senate in 2007 and is now recognized by thousands across the country. One out of every three bites in the human diet is from pollinated plants. Many pollinator species are threatened or endangered, a fact to which the Zoo hopes to draw the public’s attention.

This free event will take place from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Zoo grounds and in the DeFouw Education Center at Columbian Park Zoo.
