Application & Hiring Process

Application Process (not necessarily in this order):

    1. Submit initial interest/information via LFD Website
    2. Receive acknowledgement and invitation from Guardian Services
    3. Submit additional required information and documentation as directed by Guardian Services
    4. Complete Written Test
    5. Complete or provide proof of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
    6. Interview with the Lafayette Fire Department Hiring Committee
    7. Complete Polygraph testing
    8. Complete Background investigation
    9. Interview with the Lafayette Fire Merit Commission
    10. Receipt of application status via e-mail
    11. Placement on Hiring List

Appointment Process:            
            

    1. Offer of Conditional Employment from Fire Chief
    2. Complete Physical and Psychiatric Examination
    3. Approval for Hire by the Lafayette Fire Merit Commission
    4. Final approval of Employment by Lafayette Fire Merit Commission
    5. Establish Hire Date

Probationary Employment Period:            
            

    1. Successfully Complete LFD Recruit Academy (12 – 16 weeks)
    2. Successfully Complete on the Job Training (1 year)
    3. Promotion to Firefighter I (after year of successful employment)
